History of Guelph
The city of Guelph was discovered on April 23rd, 1827, but officially became a town on January 1, 1856. Guelph is considered to be one of Canada's first planned towns. The city of Guelph is 86.71 km². The City of Guelph can also be called “The Royal City.” Guelph is consider one of the best places to live in Canada.
Guelph's Motto
The City of Guelph's motto is Faith, Fidelity and Progress. The City`s motto in Latin is Fides, Professio, Fidelitas.
Guelph's Slogan
The city of Guelph's slogan is "Making a Difference." This slogan represents the active and innovative characteristics of the city's community. The slogan conveys Guelph's desire to make a positive impact both locally and globally.
Guelph's Logo
The city of Guelph's logo promotes a design showing Guelph's converging Rivers and the City's great sense of energy, creativity, flow and progress. The logo's energetic and bold colours shows Guelph's respect for their environment, as well as the natural world. The logo design has clean lines and simplicity.
Guelph's Coat of Arms
On the left side of Guelph's Coat of Arms is an axeman standing beside a tree stump (he represents John Galts). On the right side is Britannia with gown, helmet and a shield, representing Guelph’s links with the United Kingdom. In the centre of Guelph’s Coat of Arms, is a shield with a white running horse of Hanover. Above it, the crowns represent Guelph’s link with the British Royal family. The inscription was originally in Latin “Fides, Professio, Fidelitas.”
